Workplace English Classes

*Registration Required*

If you are a non-native English speaker entering the Ontario workforce, you must deal with the challenge of having to communicate at work in English. Whatever type of work you do or want to do – business, customer service, health services and more – you need to be clear, to understand, to be understood, to avoid problems, and to fix those problems that arise. The Workplace English course will focus on topics such as:
• Using the telephone
• Following and giving instructions
• Customer service
• Correspondence by e-mail and regular mail
• Meetings
• Negotiations
• Giving presentations
• Preparing reports
• Relations with employees, supervisors, and co-workers – including social business situations
• Dealing with issues
• Other material as requested by participants

The course instructor will be Dave Loftus. Upon ending his 31 year career in the Ontario Public Service in 2007, Dave attended the English as a Second Language Certification Program at Trent University. He has been volunteering with the New Canadians Centre ever since and has taught the past two English Pronunciation classes.
